Rereading the OP, Shuhei never even explicitely states that the PS4 Pro exceeded expectations. The interviewer asks "Is the PS4 Pro meeting your sales expectations, OR even exceeding them?" When Shuhei responds with "Yes, it's responding very well," that could have easily just been in response to meeting expectations as opposed to exceeding them.
So the thread title itself is what's misleading. Yoshida never said that either of the two pieces of hardware had exceeded sales expectations. It can't even be argued that it was implied.
EDIT: Actually, I think that it can be implied that the Pro exceeded sales expectations with the line "I think that's driving a larger demand than we had anticipated," so I take that back.
