Yeah like ... maybe support Nintendo? Like the only company in Japan that's been able to really sell hardware en masse there for the last decade? Maybe that'll eventually start to sink in to the thick heads of Japanese game studios.

It shouldn't just be some token late port of FFXV on Switch either. Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XVI should all have Switch versions readied immediately if they are not already. They should have been in development like yesterday, but if they're not they need to be today.

Square-Enix needs to understand they need to help Nintendo and they need help *now*, the Japanese game market is a house on fire, these companies need to come together and help Nintendo fight for its survival. Nintendo needs backing like they had in the Famicom/Super Famicom days if there ever is to be a healthy Japanese traditional game market again.

At this point, I honestly feel that it would just be delaying the inevitable.

Switch aside, you're left with a choice of either doubling down on the western market or going mobile.

Maybe Switch is going to be this runaway success that revitalizes the market and saves every third party, like I seem to keep reading.  Seeing the last 5 years of the market in Japan, I'm very bullish on that idea.  Particularly with the grasp mobile has on the market.  I honestly feel that the dedicated market at this point is just older gamers who have always been there while newer gamers start with mobile and never 'graduate'.

With Sony and Nintendo both moving into the mobile space, I think it's only a matter of time.

That's not to say I don't think Switch will do well, because I do, just that it'll be grabbing the scraps from the remnants of the Japanese dedicated market and while that'll be enough to sustain itself, it certainly won't be anywhere close to any sort of glory days.
