Why not? Sony gets the benefit of the doubt every time, FFXV, KHIII, DQXI were all announced for it before it really sold big, it doesn't really even deserve a Dragon Quest game based on its sales in Japan. And that's fine, but would it kill Japanese developers to even give Ninendo the benefit of the doubt *one fucking time*? Even when it's their own future that depends on it?

Nintendo shouldn't be the one jumping through hoops here trying to impress Japanese developers like a dog when they've had the two best selling platforms in Japan for the last decade easily.

Nintendo should finally be given some benefit of the doubt, they are the only one in Japan that has any chance of selling 20 million units. If Switch is reasonably powered, it's time for Square to swallow their pride and admit they need Nintendo to build them a healthy traditional gaming base in Japan or the future of many of their key IP is in serious trouble.

They get the benefit of the doubt because the games have traditionally performed well. Plus Square likes to make a spectacle these games, and Nintendo hasn't been providing the consoles that can give them the power these games need for their vision. The Wii was a success, but that was a casual fluke whose bubble popped hard. S/E hauling back and going with a mainline FF on a Nintendo platform would be a step back on the series AAA status. I mean, they COULD go back to roots and make a smaller production, but I doubt you could convince S/E to go that route.

Not to mention the fickleness of the Nintendo fanbase to support third party games scares pubs too. Sure they'll do the dog and pony show when they launch a new console and say they'll provide games, but they get the numbers back and hightail it out of there. It really comes down to the core fanbase and Nintendo being frugal on hardware that's been the ultimate issue.

And that's fine, but would it kill them to give Nintendo the benfit of the doubt even *one time*? Between the DS and 3DS, Nintendo has sold over 50 million systems in Japan. This is more than the PS1+2 combined.

The Super Famicom and Famicom had lucrative third party buyer bases in Japan. Why? Because Nintendo didn't have to sell the entire fucking platform on their own. Diversity of sales tends to happen when other developers actually get off their ass and help out.

Do these developers want a future for traditional gaming in Japan? Yes or no? That's the only pertinent question now. And Nintendo is the only one that can deliver it.
