That's probably just them giving a nod to the whole "party system" shtick that people liked and still like about the Wii, but in a way that highlights the unique portability of the Switch.  I mean, it is pretty cool in principle.  And let's not forget LAN parties were a thing that died not just due to the internet but more due to plain old inconvenience.  And I think Nintendo also wanted touch on the social aspect, the fact you can take it to a friend's house or a party because a lot of young adults now are quite social and I feel that scene in particular was aimed at that crowd.  Which is the brilliance of the trailer, it systematically targets multiple demographics, each in a way that would appeal specifically too that demographic.

Funny enough lan parties are one of the major reasons portables are so huge in Japan, their culture tends to have a number of gatherings as well as tasks where they're out the house for long periods of time even the school days of students are long to which portables allow them to game at. It's one reason games like Monster Hunter are so dominant over there.
