That's probably just them giving a nod to the whole "party system" shtick that people liked and still like about the Wii, but in a way that highlights the unique portability of the Switch. I mean, it is pretty cool in principle. And let's not forget LAN parties were a thing that died not just due to the internet but more due to plain old inconvenience. And I think Nintendo also wanted touch on the social aspect, the fact you can take it to a friend's house or a party because a lot of young adults now are quite social and I feel that scene in particular was aimed at that crowd. Which is the brilliance of the trailer, it systematically targets multiple demographics, each in a way that would appeal specifically too that demographic.

One must ask if the general audience of said trailer is able to excercise such lateral logic when watching them, though. Subtle highlights often go flying over the general audience's heads.

That's true. But I think the trailer has a good spread of "eureka !" moments throughout so while the whole trailer won't appeal to everyone in it's entirety, there's something in it for most everyone. And the composition, direction, and sound choice help give the trailer an inviting and positive feel that make it generally fun to watch I think.
