Personally, I think Nintendo are currently the least interesting they've been since the Gamecube era.

In the 7th gen at least motion controls opened up new horizons and stuff like Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and Xenoblade Chronicles sparked the imagination, while early on with the Wii U there was still the tantalizing thought of "imagine what Nintendo will pull off with HD tech", but they don't seem to be interested in pushing boundaries any more.

On a certains sense I agree. Actually the most interesting thing about the Switch is the unified library which should give them more opportunities to diversify their library. But I guess we'll see how that turns out on January.
