I loved the Def Jam games, I even loved the Wu Tang game. I think the issue wasn't the budget as much as it was EA trying to do something new with the whole remix thing. I think they tried to mix fighting and DJing or something and screwed everything over.
Secondly, I think Hip Hop and Rap as a whole has died down a bit. Pop rules all at the moment.
A Def Jam game woukd mostly work if they brought back the golden age of Rnb and Hip Hop with the cast and music with some new guys.
