They rode it hard for years. Every year. Eventually it was going to get to the point where people don't want to pay $12 for another figurine of some weird looking thing.

Well for the first 2-3 games it was just Skylanders, they turned over $2b worth of games and characters for those games, but at that point Disney, Nintendo and Lego all wanted a piece of the pie and sadly when you end up having half of the games section of stores filled with NFC characters for various games the bubble has to pop somewhere.

And when it comes ot paying $12 for a figure of a weird looking thing, ya mean like Bowser, DK, Spyro or with this last game Crash Bandicoot and Neo Cortex? A ton of the original creation skylanders have really great character and design too.

Thats great but no one knew them. My brother bought them for my niece because she wanted them. But after a year and when Disney Infinity came it was about collecting princesses instead of weird things. She watched Frozen and The Incredibles and wanted the figurines. She didn't know what Skylanders are but she thought they looked weird so she asked. But without brand recognition it was going to fade eventually.
