Well considering that Nintendo will have sold around 80 million units of hardware along with 200 million or so units of first party software this generation, i would say their games certainly do carry alot of weight.

These franchises alone are not enough for wiiu to even sell 15m. That should tell you something.

Also keep in mind that 3ds has had a great number of versions and many (if not most) 3ds owners have bought several 2/3ds'. So the numbers are not representative of the interest of people in Nintendo hardware of its franchises.

While some 3ds games sell incredibly well, most don't even chart, unlike ps4/xb1 which have been ruling them.

Last, keep in mind that a 3/2ds is significantly cheaper than a ps/xb console.

The number of games that big 3rd parties make for a console as well as the effort they put into their ports usually shows how relevant a console is.

Well ya Wii U only got a fraction of the Nintendo support 3DS had on top of other obstacles, no Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Tomodachi Life, Kid Icarus, Nintendogs, Luigi's Mansion, traditional Kirby, 2D Zelda, Mario & Luigi, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Style Savvy, Mario Golf, Fossil Fighters, Chibi Robo, Rhythm Heaven.

You are correct that many people bought multiple 3DS models/special editions but is that any different from other devices? How many people bought the original PS3/360 along with one of their slim models and a special edition? Same with PS4/XBO, how many people bought the original model and bought/plan to buy a slim or pro model? Sure handhelds are more likely to sell multiple units to a single person but the point remains the same.

Your last 3 paragraphs really serve no purpose, the fact that more PS4/XBO games chart, the price of 3DS & number of AAA games a device has are absolutely irrelevent to anything you or I previously said.
