Well considering that Nintendo will have sold around 80 million units of hardware along with 200 million or so units of first party software this generation, i would say their games certainly do carry alot of weight.

These franchises alone are not enough for wiiu to even sell 15m. That should tell you something.

Also keep in mind that 3ds has had a great number of versions and many (if not most) 3ds owners have bought several 2/3ds'. So the numbers are not representative of the interest of people in Nintendo hardware of its franchises.

While some 3ds games sell incredibly well, most don't even chart, unlike ps4/xb1 which have been ruling them.

Last, keep in mind that a 3/2ds is significantly cheaper than a ps/xb console.

The number of games that big 3rd parties make for a console as well as the effort they put into their ports usually shows how relevant a console is.
