Let's think of it this way. The XB1 had the Gears LE bundle, Gears 1TB bundle, and the Battlefield 1 bundles. The Gears LE bundle was announced way back in July, the Gears 1TB bundle was announced at the end of September, and the Battlefield bundles were announced mid-September. I think it is reasonable to say that preorders of all these bundles played a role in the 94K gap. The PS4's offerings looked stale compared to the XB1 bundles since it didn't have any new bundles for that month. Plus, a lot of consumers were holding off for the Pro.
Gotta give Microsoft some credit though. They know when to strategically release their bundles for good effect.
