Did they explain Ash`s new look (Pokemon anime)?

Out of curiosity, I skimmed through episode 2 on youtube. The animation is pretty solid, especially when Ash uses the Z move. Pretty high standards were set for the series animation wise after Greninja vs Charizard, but this new series aint as bad as everyone thinks.
