But you just said the Last of Us Remasterd worked because it was just recent (about a year apart from PS3 to PS4 if I remember). What is too recent?

Last of Us was recent enough to work as a port or remaster, basically falling into the "crossgen" category in many people's minds.  IMO it has to be within 12 to 14 months, basically a crossgen feel to it.  That's why Last of Us was able to work, it could have been a straight port with better performance and it would have worked.  But once you get past the 18 month mark, you hit a definite dead zone for a while where it's too old to excite people with a port and people will roll their eyes at a remaster.  Honestly, you can't start pitching the remaster thing until it's more of like 6 to 7 years older or more.  Needs to be long enough to pull on those nostalgia strings.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it.  Why would the people who didn't buy a Wii U for Smash 4 and Kart 8 buy a Switch for Smash 4 and Kart 8?  And if Nintendo says "no new Kart or Smash on Switch," why would Smash 4 and Kart 8 fans be interested, since they can play the most recent entries on the Wii U they already own?

I guess it depends. For Smash, who knows how long will it be for the next installment will be released because they usually take about 6 years (For Brawl and Wii U/3DS) to develop. The Switch would kinda be in a bind without any of the big hit games that move systems releasing during its life time (while Zelda is no longer Wii U exclusive it's at least still releasing on Wii U). Same can be said for Mario Kart though to a lesser extent.
