Why would a more expensive new iteration of an already existing console, really useful almost only to 4K TV owners, released 2 months after a less expensive other new iteration, come even close to 50% of the original launch of the PS4?

It's not surprising the console sell less than the expectations if the expectations are completely over the top...

My estimations were based on a three assumptions:

1- Every new hardware sells gungbusters.

2- Sony would push a heavy marketing campain in NA, EU and JP.

3- Pro would eat up much of PS4 and Slim sales. It is a better deal - however...

For the last point, I underestimated the power of blundes in adding value to the standart PS4.
