Yeah, I used to work retail around then :( Ugh.  We'd get really big shipments of games leading up to the week of.  They'd probably try to get as many in as possible.  A lot of stores open on Thanksgiving, so if they sell out on Friday or Saturday, they will need to get a new shipment in by Wednesday.  It's possible that they'll have another shipment by then, but it's unlikely to be a huge order.

I don't think retailers expect to sell through 10 million (or however many are going to US retailers) during the first week.  If they do sell through those, then they're leaving a lot of money on the table.  The ten million will probably make up the first two weeks of sales more or less.  Plus maybe a million more digital sales.  That leaves them with about 4 million to sell during december.  For comparison, X/Y sold a little over 2 million in december.  They were about a month older though.

So, not impossible, but I don't think it will happen.
