Wii launch says hi. |
Twilight Princess isn't what made the Wii successful. Wii Sports was. At best, Twilight Princess convinced people Nintendo already had to jump on a little sooner, but if Zelda games really were the core to Nintendo's console success, than the Gamecube would have sold a LOT better after Windwaker was released. 3DS would have been saved my Ocarina of Time 3D, rather than continiung to struggle until its price cut and the launch of two back to back Mario titles. Ocarina of Time would have led the N64 to victory over the Playstation, and allowed it to beat the Saturn for second place in Japan. Heck, Majora's Mask should have sealed it! Now, you may argue that "those games aren't launch titles," but thats irrelevant. If people want a game, they WILL buy the console for it, whether it was a launch title or not. PS2's big sales driver was GTA3, a game that was released well after it's American launch. The Game Boy's sales were driven by Pokemon for years, despite the game releasing roughly 7-8 years after the system was first released. The SEGA Genesis's big game that enabled it to go to war with the SNES and crush it for several years, Sonic the Hedgehog, was released nearly two years after it's American launch.
Quality launch games are important, but that's not how consoles are successful. There is no silver bullet. The Wii was successful because it was affordable, offered an innovative concept that was easy to grasp, and came packed in with a game that effectively demonstrated what it's new controller could do. Twilight Princess was just a Gamecube game with some waggle controls thrown in, that could have just as easily been had by millions of gamers on a console at half the price.
While it would have been cool to have both Mario and Zelda at launch, a console doesn't live and die by one game. Certainly not a Zelda game.

It doesn't change the fact that those are just ports. Not new games. |
Not "just" ports. Splatoon will now supposedly have new single player content, in addition to the new multiplayer maps shown in the Switch trailer. Mario Kart 8's new content is supposed to double the games size, according to rumors from a few weeks ago. Even for Wii U owners, this ought to be enticing, or at least worth a second look. Especially if these games are downloadable for free/at a discount, which has also been rumored.

Laura Dale said several months after launch. Nothing about summer or 4-6 months. |
"Several" literally means "more than two, but not many". If you're taking the rumor at face value, then your looking at a late spring/early summer launch for Zelda BotW.
