I had the same thought. Apparently if you choose to write a story with a foreign motif...it can never be adapted in your native country. Who knew?
Though that's ignoring the fact that the actual manga story takes place in a fictional world to begin with, that's only loosely based on Europe, but that's neither here nor there. They better hire a naturally golden-eyed half-Xerxian/half-Amestrian kid for the lead role, or this will apparently be a big fail.
