I find it surprising.

The day before the Switch reveal trailer, Tom Phillips from Eurogamer posted this on twitter:

Fun fact: Back in July Nintendo was indeed targeting September for NX's announce but Mario NX wasn't running perfectly. Now it is.

I find it kind of hard to believe that a Nintendo game that wasn't running well on September can be ready to launch for March.
