You also got Mario 64 launching with the N64 and that sold like gangbusters during its launch year. Unfortunately the lack of further titles, especially those from third party, did the console in. TP had the luxury to be released with Wii Sports, which was the ultimate killer app for the Wii, regardless of what impact TP had at launch. And you're also comparing 2D Mario (which ultimately got criticized for being too similar to the other NSMB games) and 3D World (to which some here claim isn't a "true" 3D Mario which is kinda weird) to potentially the "true" 3D Mario game akin to Galaxy, Sunshine, and 64. Of course we dont know everything about it but you can't dismiss a 3D Mario game especially as a launch game. |
Like I said in the other thread, Mario does not have the same impact on launch as Zelda. Mario is an evergreen title and people can wait. This does not apply to Zelda. Even if the game sells only a half, more Zelda fans are willing to buy new hardware than 3D Mario fans.
