This is true. To get a notable upgrade in graphics and meet solid 4K/60, we need something north of 12TF, and ideally ~15+. 4TF is far too weak, and even 6TF is extremely underwhelming, because it means that the extra resources will go towards resolution rather than better lighting/ultra textures/etc in most cases. At least 4K should cap out for a while. I don't see people dumping their 4K TVs in a few years, hell most people are still on 1080P. We will have to wait until PS5 and whatever the next Xbox is past Scorpio for more than simply up-rezzed gen8 games. And they will need to cut the old hardware off in order to make that happen. |
I agree and disagree. 4K is much more than just a buzz word. Have you played games or watched videos on a display 50" and above? 1080p is fine down in the 40" range, but it starts to really degrade above 50". Once you get up to the 65" and above range, 1080p looks like a low res GIF. Hit 85", and 1080p is just a blurry, noisey mess. 4K allows us to move up to 75" displays and get even better picture quality, with more detail than yopu could ever do on a 40" display. Drop HDR on top of it, and you are talking about a leap in display tech that rivals Black and White to color, and 480p 4:3 to 1080p 16:9.
Where I do agree with you is on power. That is why I have been saying that there is no way a PS5 is coming out in 2018, 2019, or 2020. The fab process is slowing way down, and fab shrinks are what brings about more powerful hardware. PS4 was a 28nm console, the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro are built on 14nm tech. This has dropped the power requirements and cost of the PS4, and allowed the Pro to more than double the OG PS4 in power. That increase has come at a cost though. It takes more power todouble the PS4 performance even with the fab process cutting in half.
Looking into the future, we won't have 7nm tech available until 2019, maybe even 2020. At that point we will be looking at 10 -12TF from a $400 console. That will give us beautiful 4k/60fps titles, with some minor enhancements to texture lighting, and shading, but it is not going to fudementaly change the game. That is why I fully believe PS5 will not be the next console Sony releases. I think we will have a PS4 Pro 2 in 2020, and that will round out the PS4 platform, with a PS5 in or around 2024 - 2025. The console market has changed.
ON TOPIC
So far I have not been disapointed in PS4 Pro from a performance stand point. I don't like that not all games are using HDR, and I absolutly hate that PSVR does not pass through Full Color and HDR. As far as performance goes though, I will take the improvement in the majority of games over the few minor drops in the titles mentioned in the artical. Even more so considering that I have been playing TLOU in 4K HDR at 30fps, and it is an absolutly wonderful experience. That alone is worth the money I spent on my 4K HDR TV, Reciever, and PS4 Pro.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
