What we see is backlash against the fearmongering. The global warming myth was blown out of proportions, and with time more and more people saw behind the lies. Psychologically this creates a counter-reaction. An increasing amount of people are sick and tired of the fearmongering and the shaming and the playing on guilt, wether it's about global warming, the refugee crisis or the European Union. You can't expect to shame and bully the Western citizen into taking the whole responsibility for all the world's problems and not get anything back but increased shame and bullying. How fun do you think it's for a white guy to be blamed for all the problems of the world, constantly be called entitled, a sexist, a misogynist, a racist, a homophobe, a fascist and egoist? And yet he is supposed to pay for climate change, he is supposed to provide for the refugees, he is supposed to be the absorbing airbag when somebody from the outside is frustrated. And on top of it all he gets bullied and beaten up and becomes a minority on his home shores. Never given even one thanks. This equation just doesn't work in the long run. Eventually people will be fed up and react. Trump is just a catalyst for this counter-reaction. And it will happen time and time again if the left keeps shaming and bullying the members who make up the backbone of our society. Do you even know how global warming works? Every aspect of the greenhouse effect is fully proven. Global Warming has started already. It's not something you can believe in or not, it's a scientific fact. Why would people even lie about it? It costs tons of money. The only reason why people say that they don't believe in global warming, is because it's a good excuse to keep on polluting as much as they want. A populist like Trump does not care about the welfare of the people, he only cares about his own money and popularity.
