I would say a equitable or favorable deal (for Nintendo) would be Microsoft Gets: - Certain Nintendo games and VC games on XBox and Windows PC platform. Nintendo chooses which ones (minimum of 3-4 console titles per year). - Nintendo design input/support into hardware/controller design. - Shared profits in Minecraft x Nintendo collaborations and Minecraft Amiibo toys. - Can publish on Switch with no licensing fees. - No Nintendo games on Playstation formats; obviously this would generally make the XBox brand far more competetive worldwide. - Potential of maybe Windows mobile OS used in future Switch iterations. - Agreement by Nintendo for the length of said contract that they will not make a dedicated home console to compete against XBox directly. Switch and other portable centric platforms are allowed and fully supported by MS.
Nintendo Gets: - Co-branding of XBox worldwide (meaning Nintendo logo is on the hardware alongside MS logo). - Distribution of XBox hardware in Asia/Japan and possibly EU markets (Germany, France, Italy, etc.). - Input into hardware designs. - A 20-40% cut of XBox third party royalty fees and no royalty fees charged on their own XBox console software (100% take home profit) - Microsoft Software support for Switch (Halo Switch, Banjo-Kazooie Switch, etc. etc.) - MS covers marketing costs for Nintendo's XBox titles. - Perhaps on top of that just regular ol' money bags too. |
Godamit, thats a horrible deal for Nintendo.strictly speaking, short term speaking(2, 3 years) Nintendo would make more money, simply because of a higher installed base(releasing on 2 consoles). But in a middle to long term, hell even in a short term too, it would destroy Nintendo brand. As rol stated, Xbox brand is still toxic, due to their decisions earlier this gen.Not only that, but Nintendo brand is far stronger than the XBox brand. And XBox would get all big Nintendo titles, but the Switch would get qatered down games of Microsoft IPs.How in the hell that is remotelly a decent deal? Not to mention as a (somewhat) third party developer, and that stupid deal of having to launch 3 or 4 big tirles every year just for XOne(and Microsoft wouldnt need to fo the same lol.How stupid of a deal), they eould need to answer to someone, restraining creativity or just plain rushing games and lowering the overall quality of games.Do I really need to go on?
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
