How do you have hard data on a device that will only be for sale like 6 months from today? Previous sales figures of what exactly? I'm pretty sure Nintendo wants to be as far away from the previous sales numbers as they possibly can for their new device. There's this myopic view from some Nintendo fans that more of the same is perfectly fine for Nintendo. If only they could please the existing fanbase, then everything is ok. Well I'm sorry, but I don't think Nintendo's investors and management feel this way. They seem to realize they need to expand the fanbase ASAP, only the way to do it might still be up for discussion. So yeah, IF, they could get some type of 3rd party release parity with Sony and Microsoft on their home consoles, that would be an amazing boost. As I mentioned before, quite a few people I have heard seem to be under the impression that's what's going to happen and that's a big selling point to them. Sure, it's anecdotal, but until I see some poll showing otherwise I have nothing else to go by. |
More of the same? Like WiiU? Who exactly is happy with that?
You really think a $400 system with Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto is going to expand the fanbase? No. A $200 system with Mario Kart and Pokemon will expand the fanbase.
Like it or not, most consumers out there aren't like us. They don't care about cutting-edge graphics, they don't know who Hidetaka Miyazaki is, they don't mind that Bayonetta in Smash Bros. is overpowered. They just want fun games to pick up and play. That is the audience to which Nintendo should speak. Not the shrinking pool of video game hobbyists.
