Buy Double Dash, unlock 2 drivers/items mode. Buy SNES Mario Kart, unlock SNES tracks etc.

Because Diddy Kong Racing and F-Zero don't play like Mario Kart at all lol that's like asking why they don't add a Samus Tunic to Zelda instead of making a new Metroid.

Have you ever played Diddy Kong Racing? Mario Kart 3DS has gliding, wouldn't take much to change that to flying and you'd have the same game.

1000cc, hover vehicles, no items/coins. They've already done half of it.
