Releasing games on mobile hasn't prevented Ninty from releasing games on their handheld. Making games for other platforms and thus increasing their sales doesn't mean they are forced to do so due to failure. It could simply be to raise brand awareness, to make new generations fall in love with old Ninty ips. But, yes, I agree with what you said. |
Such a long story. I have exhausted that topic in other threads.
Anyway, Nintendo didn't and won't release core games on mobile! As for the other platforms, if you referring to ps4/xb1, then Nintendo selling its own hardware would be suprefluous, people would choose the best hardware... You feel that those who are purchasing Nintendo home consoles for the exclusives, would still do it if these games were also on PS4/XB1? Probably, many wii u owners, own an xb1 or PS4 too.
Therefore, why releasing Mario kart 8 on PS4/XB1, when you cannot be sure that it will sell as much as it should, in order to match the money it made for Ninty by being on its own hardware? It's somewhat risky.
In addition MK8 on the low selling wii u has sold more than many first party xbox/ps exclusives! For example, all the uncharted games on ps3, and halo 5 on xbox one! By the way the writer overestimates xbox one...
Do you mean to release non core games on PS4/XB1? If so, better that on pc which is for home consoles, what mobile phones are for handheld consoles!
If you mean Nintendo going fully third party, that should be the last resort, ergo when they wouldn't be able to make money on hardware anymore! Switch must have to be sold on profit from the beginning, unlike wii u which was being sold at a loss for two and a half years, that was its real problem not the commercial flop ( that tablet controller...) , no other Nintendo console had made a loss before.
Nintendo has stated that they want to get back to their normal yearly profitabiiity, that is 100$ billion yen or 950m dollars! They were acheiving that on GC/GBA era, which combined sold 103m, they will end with 85-90m sold this gen ( it could be quite more if they hadn't killed the wii u so early ) .
Switch has to have a good third party support like gc that can have a relative success, fifa selling 2m on it for instance! Third party software may move consoles but it's also important because your take some money from what the developer earns from it.
Wiiu has sold almost 100m software, with the overwhelming majority being first party. Hence, a 30m selling profitable switch with 230m software sales ( 150m from first party and 80m from third party ), would be better than Nintendo selling 500m on multiplatform.
However, as I aforesaid they are diversifying, they will have new sources of money apart from main buisness! We agree that this is great!
P.s I don't think that those who bought a 3ds because of pokemon go are from the new generation, more like people who have played Ninty games in the past but had left Nintendo/skipped Nintendo this gen, your opinion on that?
