Then I'd be delighted. And I think most Wii U owners would be too. Even if digital, it would extend the life of the console another 3 years.

I just thought its a possibility. It seems technically Switch won't be far fron WiiU. And I don't need taking Zelda out of my home, so WiiU version will be more then enough. Same with MK8/Smash. If new Nintendo games will technically be possible on WiiU (I don't see why not) then releasing WiiU versions AND Switch versions of new games could be a nice way to put more life into WiiU.

But with the current producion plans it just seems to me the Zelda BOW will be the last game to release on WiiU, sadly (((

Switch's architecture is a clean break from Wii U. Having to develop the same game for two different architectures removes the point of Nintendo combining their handheld and home console development teams into one structure, so I don't see further Wii U support coming. Maybe, at most, DLC content for Kart/Smash etc if there's extra content in remastered versions of those Wii U titles, but like I said, continued Wii U support just recreates a resource problem Nintendo are trying to eliminate. Porting major Wii U titles to Switch in the run up to launch gives Nintendo easy first year software, and with the exception of Zelda, it's a case of porting software that's already paid for itself. And, if you have Wii U versions of Switch titles, it's less incentive for the core base to move over onto Switch. Whatever way you cut it continued Wii U support no longer makes business sense for Nintendo.

On top of that, it's abundantly clear Nintendo are done with Wii U. 6 months left in their financial year--including the festive sales season--and they're only shipping 240k Wii U's. My bet is an April announcement (end of FY briefing) that Wii U has been discontinued and no further stock will be shipped.
