There isn't going to be a World War III, and least of all it wouldn't over freaking Syria.

Even Russia does not give that much of a fuck, they are saber rattling because they are angry that they feel the US enabled pro-Europe factions in Ukraine, the US is upset that they invaded Crimea and put sanctions on Russia that really have hurt them. So they are trying to give the US a headache by making it tough on them in Syria.

Russia can huff and puff a lot but in reality, they are no where near the military power the US is

And compartively are a much poorer country than the US. A World War would bankrupt Russia.

So why they are in syria in the first place? No one excepted them to be there after getting sanctioned but funny how fast things can change? The military budgets you show are in US Dollars, but Russia pays its soldiers in rubles and builds its own weapons in rubles.

Those 60 billion $ are alot more eqpipment in their currency, its probably equal in quality and quantity to around 200 billion $ of what the US pays for its troops as Russia spends 5.4% of its GDP PPP on military.  China has probably 400 Billion PPP dollars if you look at their 1.9% of their GDP, and same story they also build all of their weapons by themselves.

Also what would the US miliatry might matter if your carriers get hit by a nuclear bomb explain that to me.

Because Assad provides Russia with airbases and regional access that Russia likes. So they obviously would prefer to keep Assad in power.

Russia will never go to war with the US, they are not stupid, their country would get destroyed. If there was going to be a war there would have been one in the 1960s, and all the crying millenials should maybe realize the 60s was 1000000x more dangerous of a world to live in than today.

Today, there's too many wealthy, powerful Russian capitalists who have no incentive to return to a Cold War situation where their finances are locked only into Russia. These people have vacation houses in Florida and New York and London and kids studying over there, and Ferraris and Bentleys, and companies, and they are well tied in to the Russian politcal structure.

War in the modern geopolitical context doesn't benefit anyone. It's one thing to go after a bunch of jihadis in caves, but country vs. country conflicts are going to become more and more rare.

China would not side with Russia in a real war vs. the US either ... the US buys too many Chinese made goods, they're not going to attack their biggest market, they would cripple their own economy in the process.
