Problems:

We don't know battery life. (and from rumors, so far, it will be mediocre and below).

We don't know exact specs (got only rumors).

The concept is perfectly clear. Something that is supposed to do both things. The problem lies in communicating everything that is NOT the concept - and I am thinking that this is a part of a bigger problem in functional (read: target market, specifications, support) communication.

Nintendo fans are perfectly excited about it - don't see why they wouldn't be. But all of this, including the iffy statements from western third parties so far is bad for system hype, word of mouth, etc. Nintendo needs to rectify that.

Sony communicated the PS4 at reveal time perfectly. Hype built up, turned to preorders, and look where it is now. This is less "what we call it" and more "clear message". Look at the bigger picture.

So if the concept is perfectly clear -- that it's a portable console -- why oh why do need to label it "console" or "handheld"?

The answer is: we don't. It's an argument in semantics. That was my point. It has nothing to do with Nintendo PR. It has everything to do with people labeling it a portable because they believe portables are inferior.

It is a portable, if some Nintendo console apologists want to be upset with people calling it that, honestly that's their problem.

LOGICALLY to be honest the Nintendo home console being "absorbed" into their much more successful portable division makes a lot of sense.

Nintendo portables have outsold Nintendo consoles wall to wall for *20* straight years. This isn't like some minor trend. The Wii U is Nintendo's worst selling console.

With mobile tech improving, the writing was on the wall. If it's so widely accepted that Sony has no future in the portable game business due to Vita's "failure" why is Nintendo's future in the traditional home console market assured? The Wii U sold even worse than the Vita.

If Sony made this exact same system, I would call it the same thing. Or if Sony suddenly released a "TV out" dock for the Vita and bundled it with the Vita, is the Vita suddenly a home console? No. It's a bonus side feature made possible by the HDMI connection.
