VR doesn't have to be state of the art. If you want to run the latest AAA games in VR then you need pricey hardware but more basic hardware like the Switch could do it. 1280x720 screen is 640x720 per eye. PS-VR is 960x1080 per eye which is much better but it doesn't mean you can't have a good experience at the lower resolution. I'm sure a VR version of Mario 64 could run very well on Switch even massively enhanced and be great fun actually immersed in that world.

What was the N64 again, a 64bit cpu with a 90mhz speed and a 60mhz gpu. Gamecube a 485mhz ppc cpu and something like a 162mhz gpu. 24MB of system memory, 16MB of slow memory and 3MB of video memory. Switch could probably do an amazing version of Zelda windwaker in VR with higher resolution and improved textures.
