Hey, dude! At best, I'd say the spin-off titles - at the very least, and the very most - deserve a brief mentioning in the article of whichever mainline title they best apply to. Since this is a chronological piece, mashing them together based on release date would make the most sense. Another point you could consider is using FF universes together, which would mean putting all the Fabula Nova Crystalis (sp) games together - although you would have a preeetty big article then. You could also put all the mobile games together. Or maybe one giant spin-off article?
To summarize: Briefly mention the spin-off titles. They should gain as much coverage as the attention they generated.

As for the future:
-how about a series covering the shift in popularity in the gaming market? As JRPGs seem to fall in popularity, military FPS rise. You can look at the best-selling titles list for each console in our database to see how the top-tens shifted from being JRPG/Platformers/Racing/Fighting (PS1) to FPS/Sports/Action/WRPG. Similarly, from Japanese to Western popularity. From Sony-published to 3rd party-published. Why did this happen, and how did it unfold?

*edit* - If you already wrote something along those lines, my apologies. I haven't been active on this site for a few months so I would not have seen it.
