The purpose of the video was to communicate the new console concept while catching the attention of the public. I believe they did it quite effectively. Now they'll likely be able to reach more people when they start talking about games.
On the other hand, if they made a 1h long explaination there's no way they would have reached 16+ million views; people are just not willing to dedicate that much time for a completely unkonwn system, unless they already expect they're going to like it.
Also, if they went all in explaining every detail about feature and games, what they would have shown from today to march? Just more of the same footage? It doesn't seem like an optimal strategy either.
The situation with Ps4 was completely different, people already knew what to expect from it in terms of concept: an HD console with high-end graphics. In other words Sony didn't need to sell the concept of Ps4, they needed to show they were going to deliver on what people were already expecting. In their case it made perfect sense to talk about hardware details and software from the beginning.
I can agree with the OP there are still key puzzle pieces missing, like game line-up (even though we did see a glimpse of new 1st party titles), hardware features, battery life and price. At the same I think it would make more sense to talk about those aspects once we know them.
