As for the NS, I need to see more of it before I decide, if it has as much handheld focus as it seems right now, it's likely not something I'll put very high on my list of future purchases, especially since it appears to have very poor backwards compatibility on top, which kinda sucks for someone who never owned a Wii or Wii U.

Perhaps you should get a Wii U this holiday season.  I know it is terrible to recommend a dying system but if you never owned a Wii or Wii U then that is your best chance for both.  Most classic Wii games are still cheap or within reasonable price on Amazon and you can pick up a decent amount of Wii U titles cheap through the select series.  I'd suggest getting at least one pro controller and perhaps a Wiimote + nunchuck (can get cheap off Nintendo site refurbed).
