yes, but something like the ipad/iphone relation.
The switch being the ipad, and the 3DS's successor being the iphone.

Shared OS, shared library of games etc. A mini switch if you will.

Why? Because NINTENDO NEEDS A SUCCESSOR TO THE 3DS. Here are the reasons :

-Switch is too big, they need a smaller handheld, something that can fit easily in your pocket.
-Switch is too expensive to sell as much as the 3DS, they need a cheaper version
-Switch is not protected enough , you can't close it like the 3DS/DS. The Switch is not Kid proof

It's fine if it is not as powerful as a One and PS4, Nintendo doesn't need to be in this market, but if the 3DS doesn't have a successor, there is going to be a huge gap in the handheld market that the Switch can't fill because it wasn't designed to.

They need a Switch mini

You just expressed my opinion ( and  what the op  mentions) consisely, conherently and with clarity I love the people who can say everything without saying much, i'm meticulous! ( You forgot the mobile games though, Nintendo first party games+mobile games obviously a  killer combo )

Is english your native language? Lol I may replace the op with your comment ! :P

Anyway, on topic!

The 50% of the poll and me aggre with you...

Advantages outnumber the disadvantages! Unless, handheld unit is cheap and could be sold seperately, I suppose people would settle for the lesser portability compated  to a 3ds-like handheld console in this case, but still a kid-friendly switch would be needed for apparent reasons, the '' 2DS switch '' !

Apropos, xds concept combines 3ds-like clam-shell with tablet-like design and keeps the dual screen, what do you thing of that ?

If the handheld device alone costs just 199$ and be sold standalone, there is no reason for a 3ds successor, just a kid-friendly edition of the handheld device! Do you concur with that?

If it is at 249$ ( more with the dock and the rest ) better Ninteno to emphasize to  the home gaming mode of switch which you can experience  outside  too not as a handheld console that you can play on tv , albeit this is what they're already doing... And release a 3ds successor for the portability/low price handheld console die-hards.

Can it really be that cheap and powerful? Can't wait to learn its price!
