Pro and Scorpio are enhanced versions of existing consoles. Switch is the new console from Nintendo that arrives before Nintendo's hungry fans who are hungry for more Nintendo content.
The e3 part, I suppose that comment applies to those who said it. I always think having a good showing at e3 is important for any company, but a console reveal doesn't need to be a e3 exclusive affair.
The idea of Nintendo capturing the casual market and bringing lots of people who wouldn't otherwise buy a console is something they accomplished with the Wii and Nintendo, along with Sony and Micro, have yet to prove that doing such a feat again is possible.
