Not sure. I mean, I agree, Nintendo has the best first party lineup. Now, if you want to attract core gamers from other fanbases, I'm not sure that raw power and good support are enough. Some people don't like Nintendo exclusives. Others think they are kiddie and immature. Others want to play the exclusives they were playing for the last 10 years... So the best option is trying to do something wildly different, and cheap, to become at least their second choice. Not trying to compete. And, honestly, Nintendo is bad competing, and it's more comfortable doing its own thing.

Maybe this is their way of becoming core gamers second choise. Who knows. If they are going to compete with MS/Sony they need to found a few Western studios to create games for the western market, and attracting core gamers that way.
