Nintendo basically wants to reserve the "handheld" tag for the 3DS since they still want to be able to sell it for a year or two more, they can't do that if people start saying this is the 3DS replacement. 

Its probably because the games will be more like console games.

but how is that really different from the 3ds library then, alot of those games could be considered console games. It had full fleged Smash game on it after all. I think tech has reached the point where the distinction between console and portables games is pretty null IMHO
