I love it as an extra option.
As mentioned it breaks into 2 controllers if you do wish to play on the go with a friend or you can just use 2 pieces as one OR bring the connector with you and play like the guy at the beginning of the trailer.
Using 2 pieces as 1 controller just seems like the wiimote situation to me and I never ever had an issue using that as a controller so personally I' m quite alright with this.
