Yea they have stated that but it would be odd to release two portable products from them. It will confuse the consumers if they did that and potentially compete with themselves... But we don't know if thats even going to be a thing so we should just speculate on what we do know. Nintendo can call it a home console "first and foremost" but if it acts like a handheld that can connect to the TV, then that is what most people will see it as.

They did show quite a bit of portability on its trailer so I doubt the battery will be short. Even if it isn't very long, it still has to be a consideration if they are going to advertise it as portable device in any sense. They showed it being played on airplanes and car trips so...

And yea, I wouldn't doubt that there might be a power saving technique like that.

It's only odd if you look at vague similarities, NX I've suspected was always going to be a family of devices under one ecosystem but different execution in what they do. Most people will see NS as a console that can act like a portable, 3DS' successor is likely a portable only device that may even touch on some mobile aspects but not connect to a TV, they may overlap in some aspects but won't be the same.

Portable just means you can take it with you, if it has poor battery life but comes with a convenient charging cable it's still portable and can still be marketed as such.

Considering how Nintendo's marketing has been... I doubt they would do a good job at showing what makes them different apart from one connects to a TV and one doesn't... Most people would just see them as one with a big screen and the other with the small one. Assuming it even happens.

Yes cause carrying a charging cable is exactly what people want to do with a portable device. If the battery life really is poor, that means they would have to charge it often. I wouldn't call that convient at all... Specially since we don't know whether or not a portable powerbank can output enough to charge it faster than it is draining.
