If consumers dont buy it now it can never be mass produced which dramatically reduces costs down the line and also gives them reason to invest in releasing improved future models. 

I think he's talking about the people that pay 2-3 times retail because they never got one on release and are too impatient to wait the month until the shops in the area are restocked.
