Discussion on User-Created Groups

My 2 cents.... I'm not really a big fan of the groups idea, I get what you're trying to achieve, a place to discuss something like a game or console without having the conversation turn into a flame war, but I don't think groups and especially private groups is the right way to achieve that.

I think groups kinda goes against the idea of a forum. I like the idea that even though I don't own a PS3, I can see what a lot of people who do own one are getting excited about, which may cause me to want to buy one, and I can also add my opinion about games like LBP or MGS4. If someone goes and creates a PS3 group that's invite only, and the requirement for joining that group is owning a PS3, then people like me who are planning to buy one eventually, are going to miss out on a lot of information.

Anyways, to sum up, I think private discussions go against the idea of a forum. If the goal is to have flame free topics, then the mods should start pulling the ban trigger on anything that resembles trolling/flame-bait.
