I hope people aren't actually offended by that joke..

Things like that are not a "joke". People who "joke" like that at my place of work find themself getting escorted off by the police with a disorderly conduct ticket. Being rude to other people is not funny. If you friends find something like that funny just keep stuff like that between you and your friends. If you do that to a person who you do not know personally, it just rude and uncalled for, in fact that is the very definition of bullying.

Sorry for going off like that but that is one of my pet peeves.

So from what I gather, you're American, and likely work in America, which means people have a right to free speech where you work. So no, I doubt that anyone would get tickets for making use of their freedom of expression, especially when the only outcome of such expression is someone getting offended.  Futhermore, It's not bullying, especially when 4 out of 5 Americans identify themselves as Christians, and one of the least trusted group of individuals in America are athiests. So no, one person from a minority position cannot possibly be bullying any one person just by making fun of their religion.

You do not have a right to not be offended. If you have a problem with being exposed to offensive materials I highly recommend you stay off the internet entirely.
