With some exceptions, disparaging the recently diseased is always a crappy thing to do.

But another thing that's really crappy about this is that Pachter is completely ignoring all the great things Iwata accomplished during his time running Nintendo.

Iwata turned around Nintendo's console division, going from third place and 22 million sold to first place and over 100 million sold in the space of a single generation. Under him, Nintendo released the best selling console in Nintendo's history in the DS, which came less than a million short of overtaking the PS2 and becoming the best selling dedicated gaming system ever. 3DS got off to a rocky start, but he took the necessary actions to turn the system around and make it a success, AND took a pay cut.

The only failure under his belt is the Wii U. It sucks that Nintendo lost all the ground they gained with the Wii and then some, but that doesn't negate all the successes Nintendo had under him, not by a long shot.

I mean, let's not forget that the last console Nintendo released before him, the Gamecube, wasn't exactly a success either. Before the Wii, Nintendo's marketshare and console sales had been declining every single generation since the NES. Then the Wii sold more than both the SNES and N64 combined.

The man was a visionary who made his company billions of dollars. He brought gaming back to it's arcade roots and reintroduced it to the masses in a way it hasn't enjoyed since the days of Pac-Man.

The Wii U was a flawed, odd move that was antithesis to Iwata's blue ocean vision, which didn't really make sense as a successor to the Wii. That and his inability to see smartphones coming as viable gaming platforms (at let's face it, many of us laughed at that notion) were really his only mistakes. There are plenty of other more notable tech visionaries who made bigger mistakes, though.

So yeah, not only is Pachter being a boob, he's also just showing how ignorant he is of the industry is purports to analyze, and he demonstrates why he should never be taken seriously, even if he is correct every now and then. While I haven't taken the man seriously in years, I always did have a modicum of respect for him, if only for his capacity to rile up Nintendo fanboys. But with this, he has lost even that from me, as he should from everyone else regardless of console allegiance.

That was beautiful.
