Microsoft won NPD 3 months in a row, well done and much deserved. However the PS4 is still killing it 2:1 worldwide but the point is that competition is great for us gamers. I do feel Sony have been a bit too comfortable in the last 12 months and have become slightly less consumer friendly, where Microsoft have been relaxing their policies. We just have to look at the inclusion of a UHD blu ray drive in the Xbox One S and their allowance of FULL MODS to Fallout 4 and Skyrim Remastered. Where if you go back 3 years ago they had a parity clause in place for indie games coming out for both PS4/Xbox One, always online and no second hand games policy. I feel it is now Sony's time to show consumers so good will. Allow external hard drive support, the ability to play audio CDs and relax their mod policy and I will be happy. Or they could allow UHD blu ray support in the Pro :P

Totally agree with this. Sony kindoff let themselves go a bit this year. I hope that its was mostly down to massive preparations for 2017, but they left room to breath for the competition. Still, the overall standings wil not change, and the console race still seems as a console slaughter, but I should give credit where credit is due, and 3 months of NPD is a nice achievment for MS, and shows that is certain regards they can still be somewhat competitive

For sure. I'm a Sony guy but certain protocol of theirs confuses me. Nintendo and Microsoft are not free of this kind of behavior either. Each company has shown cases where they are restrictive on their consumers(Sony with no external assets in Fallout 4, Nintendo with region locking the Wii U and not having HDMI out in the original Wii even though it was physically capable internally and Microsoft with the parity clause/always online/not second hand games idea) so we cannot expect an all-perfect console manufacturer.
