The problem is that Clinton being the more hawkish of the two doesn't necessarily mean that she is more likely to start a war with Russia in my mind.  I think Clinton will be very aware of what she is doing in regard to foreign policy and the likely results of her actions.  That's not to say she will never make mistakes, but she has a lot of experience dealing with Russia.  I believe she can take a hard line stance on issues without getting into armed conflict.  I do not trust Trump to not aggravate a tense situation and potentially get into an avoidable armed conflict.  He seems to treat things in a binary way, from what I've heard, where you are either a friend or an enemy with precious little room in between; and when you are an enemy he responds with lots of threats and bluster.  In other words, he is not a good diplomat.

The problem with that argument is she clearly did not think through her actions (both in the Obama administration and in her support of ventures during the Bush era) in the Middle East, so why would she be any better in relation to Russia, especially when she (and the Democrats currently in government) is so anti-Russia on the campaign trail? Vs Trump who is clearly in favour of detante with Russia.

People's dislike of Trump and his personality is blinding them to the fact that Clinton has previous on this issue. They, like you here, are choosing to ignore her weaknesses on things like this simply because their hatred for Trump outweighs anything that Clinton has done in the past, irrespective of Trumps actual stance on the issue.

For what it's worth I think this is mostly bluster on Clinton's part; she's playing it up for the cameras to her base but in office I don't see her acting any different regarding Russia than Obama or Bush.

Are you saying the sanctions against Russia have been ineffectual and/or the wrong way to answer their annexation of Crimea and their involvement in what was going on in Ukraine?  What does Trump actually propose?  A brief search turned up nothing concrete, just saying that he would be better.

P.S.  Remember that there is a difference between diplomacy between actual nations and dealing with popular movements and insurgencies.  The current point of discussion is the former, not the latter.  Iran was brought to the table under the Obama administration, but I guess Trump supporters would call that a strike against Clinton.  That situation also involved pressuring a nation into coming to heel through the use of sanctions.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
