This isn't very convincing. Why this demographic would want a semi functional handheld instead of a real one is something we'd need to address. The fact that Nintendo would be wanting developers to port to NX home console then make custom content for this mobile component is another question. Although there are quite a few tie ins, very few have huge success so I don't think it'd be a convincing selling point for a $299-$399 system, yet it'd probably add at least $50 to the systems cost even if it was a cheap as dirt/weak mobile device.

The Hybrid platform idea is far more functional & economically viable then fitting 2 independt consoles in one box.

But the hybrid idea will have a portable system that is to big to be portable with poor battery life and a home console functionality that is subpar. And many people don't want full console quality games on the go, but smaller mobile style games.

The "Poor" battery life which hasn't detailed will likely be simialr to the PSVIta. I've yet to see the Vita's battery life be brought up in debate over why it was failure, I doubt it would have much impact on NX's success unless it was ridiculously short. Where size is concerned a 6" screen is all the info we have and 6" fits on the top half of the 3DS XL's clamshell. If it was a major concern Nintendo could go for a traditional clamshell design instead a tablet/psvita design where the controls sit on the side of the screen. The home console will be a quality Nintendo box, by subpar you must mean it'll be weaker than PS4? So many people who want a core home console will already have a PS4/X1 or will be eyeing one up since the systems have been out for 3 years and have 100s of games out on them already, 3 years of highly established marketing, online connectivity with friends is obviously important for the CODS/Fifa/Titanfall's/Star Wars' etc. Coming in mid-gen and trying to tackle this audience simply not realistic.

Also Nintendo primarily makes their money from selling full games on their handheld consoles, anything less they can do on mobile as show by pokemon go and upcoming Mario go. Nintendo handhelds are always bigger then their consoles, always. It cannot be an after thought. Their last 4 home consoles, were outsold by the compeition by at least 3:1. The home console is least important thing in Nintendo's future.
