I'm still hoping the Eurogamer rumor isn't the whole story; This makes way more sense if you take into account everything has been saying since day one.

About the power argument... well, it really doesn't matter if NX is superior to what is already in the market (Scorpio included because of the announcement).
Nintendo's problems have little to do with power and way more with 2 other aspects: image and games.

Nintendo started losing marketshare and mindshare the moment someone came in and said "we are going after the cool kids with our cool image and we are gonna make games with that live by that mindset" (weird speach but you get the point).

Sega, Sony, MS... they all did this and they one (Sega's failures are a different story altogether).

It's no longer about the games as Reggie says: this industry has become about image first and games second.
And this is where Nintendo has failed for generations except for the Wii.
Nintendo and this industry went different paths as soon as Sony took over.

NX might be more than powerful to port games to and the games might even be equal or even superior to the original version and it still won't matter.
Nintendo would need to change their overall image and start making games (or paid exclusives) that appealed to a market that Sony and MS dominate.

Look at Splatoon. Look at how well it did.
The only other title that could seriously be compared to what Sony and MS, offer would Xenoblade... in 4 years on the market.
There's no sports games, no racers, no online games like Destiny, no shooters.... how the heck are you going to compete? With more graphical power?
