An advanced easy setup version of google cardboard type VR. You just drop the tablet into the visor and play. The battery isn't an issue. Nintendo go for cheap mature tried and tested technology that they can make good profit on. Not only that but the lenses and plastic body keeps the tablet away from the user's eyes etc. To be honest this is the only thing that makes sense of the performance box. The performance box sits nearby to generate superior VR graphics for the visor which are transmitted to the tablet in the visor. Personally I'd rather they eliminated the performance box and made the tablet as powerful as possible and gave it a 1080p screen rather than 720p. I hope also that the tablet has 2 rear facing cameras for 3D augmented reality. 720p or 1080p cameras will be fine. and the visor could then generate gameplay based on the rear world. I.e. a platform game where the characters climb around your living room or bedroom or you shoot zombies trying to get in your window. Lots of stuff can be done to a good level with hardware below ps4/xbone. |
I tried the samsung setup and it works as VR. Not the greatest off course but it works fine. I could go with VR like that.
