In a sense our universe IS a simulation, since whatever it is... our reality is just a program that executes according to some rules, and is executed by and in something else.
However what people usually mean here is that we are in a simulation, and we will wake up from it at some point rather than vanish.
If we found out it's the latter, I would try to find out the purpose of the simulation and how to win it
