The problem is 360 was delivering similar and arguably superior gaming experiences at a lower price.

Bluray was arguably a mistake given Sony doesn't care about UHD this gen and most games were fine running off a DVD. The Cell was basically unnecessary and Sony should have used a cheaper CPU. PS3 needed the HDD to play many games while 360 could play many of those same games from a disc.

The other features are not why PS3 was so expensive. Bottom line, PS3 could have sold better and been cheaper simply using a traditional CPU and DVD like 360.

Sony had invested in the blu ray format and had a format war to win against HD-DVD. Implementing it into the PS3 internally helped Blu-Ray win the format war.
