Well N64 and Gamecube were definitely meant to compete. Wii and Wii U were meant to be less competitive to current and last gen. They went with the creative route there. They meant to be more unique and not compete in power. Those are my opinions. Yours are welcome too. 

I just dont think power has anything to do with it. If it did then there would be no DS vs PSP or 3DS vs Vita. I know Nintendo marketed the Wii as a secondary console, but its still a competitor to the PS3 and 360.
